Guidelines for Leaders

The designated Group 1 ride leader should  describe the route.

Be  sure to be clear about the route and stick to it .

Leaders ride towards the rear of their bunch, ensuring that no one is left behind.

Leaders each carry a first aid kit with them.  These are picked up and returned to the box at Natalie Brockie's house, 8 Burma Road, across the road from Civic Video.

With the longer rides, the leader of the third bunch should generally take one of the shorter options in order to bring the bunch back not later than around 11 am.

Leaders nominate a suitable person to who can ride at or near the front to guide the route and set an appropriate pace to keep the group together.

If it's raining the ride is off and the leaders are under no obligation to turn up.

Leaders should, depending on experienece of riders gathered remind riders of the following key safety points as appropriate:

  1. At least two riders must stop to assist someone who get a puncture and help pull them back into the bunch.
  2. Ensure signals and calls are passed back down the ride line.
  3. No more than two wide and keep the group together, filling gaps.
  4. Ride shoulder to shoulder when in pairs.
  5. Watch following distances.
  6. No erractic moves, or sudden braking.
  7. New riders must stay off the front until they know where they're going and the appropriate pace
  8. Call if passing - always on the right, never under pass on the left
Comfort stops: Please be discreet when answering a call of nature, either wait for a public convenience or find appropriate natural cover to avoid offending neighbours and passing motorists.
